Historischer Friedhof is a historic cemetery located in the heart of Weimar. It is one of the most visited cemeteries in Germany and serves as the eternal resting place for many famous personalities. Opened in 1818, it is a unique parkland topped with ancient trees, nestled on a hill southwest of the city, next to the Poseckschen Garten.

Here you will find many fascinating architectural structures. For example, the Memorial Gallery, which rose from 1878 to 1879 and was originally designed for funeral ceremonies, now serves as a memorial to those who died in the First World War. The pinnacle here is the Tomb of the Princes, the eternal resting place for Johann Wolfgang Goethe and Friedrich Schiller.

The cemetery also features a variety of monuments such as: The Euphrosine Monument, dedicated to Euphrosine, daughter of the Duchess of Weimar and patroness of the arts; the Monument to the Dead of March, commemorating those who died in the revolutionary events of March 1848. and the Monument to the victims of the bombing of the Weimar Bank during the Second World War. Many prominent personalities are buried here, including Louise of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Karl Alexander of Württemberg and many others.
