Haus am Horn Weimar

Audio Guide Haus am Horn

Haus am Horn is a house in Weimar that was designed by Georg Muche and built for the Bauhaus exhibition in 1923. It is the only house realized by the Bauhaus in Weimar, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The house demonstrates the ideas of new construction and housing, based on rationality, functionality and modern technology. The house has a cubic shape, a flat roof and a spacious inner courtyard. Inside the house there are various rooms, such as a living room, a bedroom, a dining room and a bathroom, which are equipped with furniture and objects from different workshops of the Bauhaus. The house is open to visitors and researchers who can learn more about the history of German architecture and culture.

Georg Muche (1895-1987) was a German artist, designer and teacher. He was one of the founders of the Bauhaus, a school of art and design that was active in Germany in the first half of the 20th century. Muche was one of the main organizers of the Bauhaus exhibition in 1923, where he presented the Haus am Horn. He designed this house together with Adolf Meyer as a prototype of affordable housing that could be quickly and cheaply mass-produced.
